The Lowdown on Zodiac Sign Taurus: Everything You Need to Know About Taurus Traits and Attributes in Astrology
Are you a Taurus and want to know more about this sign? Or maybe your latest beau is a Taurus (good luck with THAT Bull!) and you want to deep-dive into the sign. Or you’ve heard it’s Taurus Season and are curious how that plays out. So much to explore!
For this article, let’s cover the Zodiac sign Taurus in its entirety so you’re fully prepped for dealing with this sign in every way:
Taurus Facts: Earthy & Fixed
The Zodiac is made up of 12 signs, and Taurus is the second sign, coming after Aries. Every sign comes with its own energy, and it moves from the previous sign. Aries is the sign of energy and new beginnings, and Taurus slows this down and is a chill sign. If you’re a Taurus Sun, you tend to be sensual and practical somehow (maybe not in all ways, but at your core, since your Sun is your true self).
The Zodiac signs are broken down in 2 ways, by element and by quality. There are 4 elements, and Taurus is the earth element (along with Virgo and Capricorn). The earth signs are known for their practicality, reliability, and sturdiness.
There are 3 qualities (also called modalities), and Taurus is the fixed modality (along with Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius). The fixed signs are fixed in nature, sticking with whatever they’re focused on.
Put together being an earth sign and a fixed sign, and Taurus is known for being the slowest, steadiest of the Zodiac signs. This can be most obvious in someone who is a Taurus Sun, Moon, or Rising, but can be present for everyone wherever Taurus falls in your natal chart (which is a snapshot of the location in the Zodiac of the planets, houses, and other bodies at the moment you were born from the location you were born at; it’s also sometimes colloquially dubbed a birth chart).
Taurus naturally connects with the 2nd house (ruler of money, resources, and values), and is ruled by Venus (sensual and attractive). But, Ceres (a dwarf planet ruling nourishment and support) is argued to be the actual ruler of Taurus instead of Venus (I tend to use both).
Taurus Season: A Time to Slow Down & Ground
During Taurus Season (which is when the transit, or moving, Sun tours Taurus), we see this energy play out broadly, and we all tend to be focused on practical matters more, want more stability and security, and can take our time.
Taurus Season occurs roughly mid-April to mid-May every year (since the Sun moves at a steady pace), and this is the time of year where we build on the new beginnings of the previous season (Aries), and want to ground anything new or any progress we’ve made.
Grounding is often super important during Taurus Season, and this helps us navigate the slowness. Going so slowly, we can get stuck pretty easily if we become uncertain and question what we’re doing, so it’s important for us to feel grounded and centered, otherwise we may put ourselves in a rut we’re trying to claw our way out of later.
Slowing down is important, but we need to still continue to make progress, even if it’s just a tiny bit at a time. By being confident in what we’re doing, and staying grounded, we can keep at it. This actually helps us make a lot of progress by the end of Taurus Season, because we can stick with it and see it through no matter what.
Taurus rules our values, what we feel is worth our time and energy, and self-respect and self-worth. This is why confidence is important during Taurus Season to stay the course. We need to show ourselves respect and value our skills, abilities, and talents, and put them to good use.
Taurus Personality Traits:
The Taurus personality is one that is rooted in being practical, reliable, and grounded. This is most seen in a Taurus Sun, Moon, or Rising, though this can be taken over if the Sun, Moon, or Rising are conjunct (aligned with) another planet that dominates (like Uranus for example, which would make you more unconventional and impulsive - Aquarius-like, ruled by Uranus).
Other natal bodies in Taurus express themselves in a Taurus way (so whatever they rule is more practical, grounded, steady, etc.). If you have multiple planets in Taurus, then you can come across as way more Taurus-like, especially with a stellium (3+ planets together in Taurus).
You may look at your natal chart and find you have no Taurus planets, but you’ll still have a Taurus house (there are 12 houses, each connecting with different parts of your life). The Taurus house is where that practical, grounded, steady energy is present.
Taurus is steady and calm, centered and grounded. It doesn’t want to be pushed (and won’t allow anyone to do that!). It moves when it’s ready, and not a moment sooner. It’s ready when it’s confident, and when it knows it will see things through. This makes Taurus reliable, because once Taurus starts moving, it’ll continue on.
Someone with strong Taurus energy can be super practical, dependable, and has strong earthy energy to them. There is a strong sensual quality as well, and this can be seen as very attractive (even when you’re not conventionally attractive).
Classic Taurus, when not manifesting well, is stubbornness - yeah, we’ve all come across THAT! Taurus can get stuck in its ways, hardened in its thinking, and convinced that it’s right even when it’s quite obviously wrong. But this tends to be rooted in insecurity and self-doubt, and stubbornness is a defense mechanism.
When confident and secure, Taurus may not move quickly, but will at least keep an open mind to moving. It’ll mull over options and details and take its time so it can be sure that it’s making the right choice and taking the right action. This might be too slow for some (*cough* Aries *cough*), but it gets there eventually!
Where Taurus can struggle is with laziness and indulgence. Sometimes it’s difficult for Taurus to be adequately motivated, and it can take R & R to the next level (almost a professional!). Taurus can especially overdo it with anything that stimulates the senses (like food, drink, and sex). So, it’s important for Taurus to practice moderation and to stay motivated.
What about when the transit planets are in Taurus?
As already mentioned, when the transit Sun is in Taurus, this is Taurus Season, and we all see this energy play out broadly. The Sun shines a light, hence the transit Sun bringing out attention to Taurus energy in general.
But the other transit planets can also bring out Taurus energy. Mercury rules the mind, so Mercury in Taurus can slow down our mental energy while helping us be dedicated to decisions. Mars rules energy and drive, so Mars in Taurus slows us down, but also makes us more dedicated to our actions. Jupiter rules expansion, so Jupiter in Taurus helps us expand on stability, security, and resources.
With Venus and Ceres being rulers of Taurus, this amplifies Taurus energy when either are touring Taurus. For Venus, this especially ramps up our sensuality and makes being grounded attractive, and we can infuse stability into our relationships. For Ceres, this especially ramps up our focus on resources, and makes us more resourceful.
Saturn teaches lessons with any issues related to the sign it’s touring, so in Taurus, this can bring attention to blocks with confidence, having stability and security, being stuck, and being practical. This can come out when Saturn travels Taurus again in a few years (2028 - 2030).
Uranus has been in Taurus for a while, but this comes to an end soon (2026). With Uranus ruling change, this has made us shake things up regarding our resources, confidence, and stability. The status quo has had to undergo major changes over the last decade! This should lead us into a better sense of values that open us up to the future as we’re experiencing a major paradigm shift.
Neptune won’t come to Taurus until 2038, but with Neptune ruling spirituality, this means we’re working to ground our spiritual selves. Chiron, who rules wounds and healing, begins moving to Taurus in 2026, and we can work on old issues that have created insecurity and self-doubt, and clear blocks to having abundance.
Pluto doesn’t come to Taurus again until the end of the century, so we don’t need to worry about this one much, but as the planet of transformation, the world will likely experience major transformations impacting resources and stability.
This is all in general; if you’re familiar with your natal chart houses, you can see this energy is focused on the areas of life ruled by the house in your natal chart the Taurus planets tour. This might be for you intermediates!
