5 Ways to Work With Your South Node & Get Out of Your Own Way

There are some positions in astrology that are serious, intense, and require a lot of conscious focus to navigate wisely. The South Node is one of them.

The South Node is a part of the Lunar Nodes, which are the points in the Moon’s orbit where the Moon crosses the ecliptic. There’s a North Node and a South Node, and they exactly oppose one another in the Zodiac.

The North Node is your potential and purpose, and where you can be fulfilled in your life, but it’s unfamiliar and uncomfortable since it’s what we have to learn, so we tend to shy away from it until we’re older.

The South Node, on the other hand, is very familiar and very comfortable. This is what we already know, so it’s what we carry with us from past lives or from our early years in this life. Because it’s so familiar, the South Node is where we fall back in times of upset and trauma, and this can become an emotional crutch that holds us back.

It’s important to work with the South Node properly, otherwise it’s an area where we can be our own worst enemy. Let’s cover 5 ways you can work with your South Node so it’s not a detriment for you:

01. Learn the lessons associated with your South Node.

At the very top of the list is, you have to learn the lessons associated with your South Node. Your South Node is similar to your natal Saturn, and these two areas are where you have to learn and understand.

Chances are, your early life traumas are found in your South Node, and the ways in which they have had a challenging impact on your personal development. This provides an opportunity for you to find what you need to focus on instead of getting lost and wondering what to do to help yourself and your life.

Look to your South Node sign, the house your natal South Node falls in, and any planets in your South Node sign. There are likely big lessons you need to learn regarding all of them. Until you learn from this, you can continue to put yourself in a bad position in life, so don’t do that.

02: Release the baggage in your South Node.

Jumping off from your lessons, you also have baggage in your South Node, and this can be emotional, subconscious, spiritual, or even karmic and carried over from past lives. Remember that the South Node is what you already know, so this does mean it’s also a place where you hold baggage.

Assess your greatest issues and what baggage you may have still from them. You may not want to see how much you’re still holding on to, but it’s imperative that you do, otherwise you can’t really move forward and continue to hold yourself back.

This can weigh on your mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and sometimes even physically. Remove some of this baggage to free yourself up.

03. Recognize your crutches with your South Node.

With the South Node being so familiar and so comfortable, it can also be a place where we fall back on bad habits and emotional crutches. It becomes overused, overplayed, and overdone, and this is to our detriment.

Be honest with yourself about your bad habits and emotional crutches with your South Node. The sign, house placement, and any planets in your South Node sign can be ones where you keep falling back to, and this can keep you in the same loop, repeating the same cycle over and over again.

Once you determine your bad habits and emotional crutches, you have to work on stopping yourself from using them. Find alternative ways to help yourself that are healthier and more positive for you.

04. Grow from the South Node.

You don’t need to completely ignore your South Node. In fact, that’s a bad thing! You need to release baggage, quit bad habits, and learn lessons, and as you do this, it enables you to grow from your South Node.

With the South Node being so familiar, it can provide a safe spot for you to jump off from. Move forward in your life and as a person from your South Node, and it can be a helpful launching pad.

With the knowledge you’ve acquired doing the hard work of your South Node, this can allow you to move forward wiser, and thus allows you to grow more and more as a person.

05. Utilize the skills and talents in your South Node.

With the South Node being what you already know, this means there are skills and talents within your South Node that are available to you. You might overuse them and make them a crutch if you’re not careful, but you also shouldn’t completely avoid them either. Recognize them for their benefits, and use them thoughtfully and intentionally.

You usually don’t need to re-learn the talents and skills you have in your South Node, so it’s not something that’s at risk of going away. It’s always there, available for you to use at any time.

This can be a powerfully positive way to use your South Node, so look to your South Node sign, house placement, and planets in your South Node sign, and see what natural talents and innate skills you have at your fingertips.
