What Astrology Can Show You'll Be a Late Bloomer Professionally?

Knowing what you "want to be when you grow up" is asking us what we want to do with our lives professionally. This might be a silly question to ask a small child, though some know right away what their greatest passion is and go for it in adulthood. But not everyone is like that - what if you're not?

Astrology can be helpful for almost anything in life, and there can be clues that you're someone who won't know what you want to be when you grow up for a while. What are those clues? Let's explore.

The Biggest Clue: Saturn

Saturn connects with the latter half of our lives, and our first Saturn Return - when transit, or moving, Saturn returns to the exact position it was at when we were born - is often the start of adulthood astrologically. Saturn is the late bloomer, and often makes whatever it's touching come to us later in life.

Whatever is ruled by the Zodiac sign your natal Saturn falls in, the house it's located, and any planets conjunct, or aligned, with your natal Saturn can indicate areas where you may not see developments until later in life, when you're an adult.

Often, this comes with important lessons, since Saturn does want us to learn. If we show we can learn, and we do things right, then we can get great Saturn rewards. But we can continue to struggle if we fight learning.

When it comes to your professional life specifically, Saturn can show you coming to this later in life if it's doing any of the following:

  • located in the second house of money, sixth house of work, or tenth house of career

  • located in Taurus, the sign of money; Virgo, the sign of work; or Capricorn, the sign of career

  • forming an aspect, especially a conjunction, square, or opposition, to your natal second house, sixth house, of tenth house rulers, which are the natural planetary rulers of the signs those houses fall in

The interesting thing with Saturn when it comes to your professional life is that Saturn is actually the planetary ruler of career. This means that if your natal Saturn itself is challenged, this can also show you won't come to your professional passion until later in life.

This can be the case if your natal Saturn is:

  • anaretic, or located at 29 degrees of any Zodiac sign

  • at a critical degree, which are special positions of critical energy

  • a singleton, which means it's the only planet in your natal chart in an element, modality, or house type

  • conjuncts one of your angles, which are the pillars of your life and elevate your Saturn

  • a part of a stellium, which occurs with three or more planets together in one Zodiac sign, and Saturn can take over stelliums, amplifying its importance

  • an apex planet of a t-square, which means you have two or more planets opposing one another, and they all square Saturn, putting Saturn three signs away

  • intercepted, which means the sign your natal Saturn falls in isn't on any house cusp [the very beginning of any house], and Saturn's energy is contained in that house

It's even more important for you to learn your Saturn lessons when you have a challenged Saturn. If you don't this can lead to big problems for your life in general, and this can have a strong impact on you professionally. If you do learn your Saturn lessons, you can start making headway with your professional goals after your first Saturn Return, which occurs between 28-32.

Then there is the North Node:

Astrology has something called the Lunar Nodes, which are the points in the Moon's orbit where the Moon crosses the ecliptic. There are two Lunar Nodes called the North Node and the South Node, and they oppose each other in the Zodiac, and in their energy. The South Node is familiar energy, what you already know, and the past, while the North Node is unfamiliar energy, what you must grow into, and your potential.

Since the North Node is what we have yet to learn, we tend to shy away from it, especially when young. As we get older, we should try to manifest it more in our lives, and this can unlock a lot of hidden potential and let us see our purpose.

This means that in general, the North Node has an impact on us professionally since it does directly show our potential and purpose in life, which is often intertwined with our career.

But the North Node can specifically impact our careers and make it something we don't figure out until later in life if the North Node is in:

  • Taurus, Virgo, or Capricorn

  • the second, sixth, or tenth house

  • the same sign as your natal Saturn

  • the same sign as your natal second, sixth, or tenth house rulers

There isn't a magic bullet here, and unlike with Saturn, there may not be any lessons you need to learn first. Instead, you just have to push forward through the fear and uncertainty, develop more confidence, and embrace your North Node. When you do that, you can find your ultimate life happiness.

Since the North Node does relate to your potential and purpose on its own, a challenged North Node can also slow you down professionally and make it come later. This can be the case in your Lunar Nodes are:

  • anaretic

  • at a critical degree

  • intercepted

There is also the chance for there to be blocks with your Lunar Nodes, which are any planets that are square, or three signs away, your nodes. They can show hurdles you have to jump, issues you have to address, and blocks that have to be worked through.

This can directly impact you professionally if any of the squared planets are:

  • in Taurus, Virgo, or Capricorn

  • in the second, sixth, or tenth houses

  • Saturn

  • ruler of the second, sixth, or tenth houses

One More: See the Rulers and Cusps

One last thing to check out is the condition of the second, sixth, and tenth house cusps and rulers. They may show you have difficulties to overcome first in order to find your professional path in life, and you have to get that energy under control and learn to use it productively, or release baggage that is holding you back.

With the rulers, this can be the case if they are:

  • anaretic

  • at a critical degree

  • a singleton

  • intercepted

  • a retrograde Mercury, Venus, or Mars

With the cusps, this can be the case if they are:

  • anaretic

  • at a critical degree

  • conjunct Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto

By the way, in some of these cases, you may not be confused about what you want to do, and know all along, and instead these positions show that you struggle to get it going, get recognition, make strides, or achieve success, and this may not come until after you've worked on it for a while. When that's the case, just keep going, and you can get there eventually with even bigger rewards to show for it.

Recap:

  • Saturn impacting the professional sectors can make you a late bloomer with your career path since Saturn restricts and demands lessons be learned first

  • the North Node can make career goals unfamiliar and uncomfortable, making you come to them later in life

  • a challenged second, sixth, or tenth house can delay your career
